WhatsApp Gets Shareable Links Feature for Group Chat Invites

Image result for WhatsApp Gets Shareable Links Feature for Group Chat InvitesWhatsApp was rumoured to bring the shareable links feature to invite new users to a group since last few months. The most widely-used messaging has now received the feature in its latest Android beta app, and it is now available to users running the beta.

The new invite feature for WhatsApp groups is available to Android users running version 2.16.281 and above. Notably, the latest beta build also brings several bug fixes. The new group link feature is also available to iOS users running version 2.16.10.

Once upgraded to the latest beta build of WhatsApp, group administrators will have the ability to add new members through shareable links. To access the new link feature, administrators will have to tap on the add participant option to get the “Invite to group via link” on top of the contacts. Once selected, the “Invite link” page will open with text reading, “Anyone with WhatsApp can follow this link to join this group. Only share it with people you trust.” WhatsApp users will get a share link alongside other options for Send link via WhatsApp, copy link, share link, and revoke link. There’s another option to get a print group QR code option where new members can just scan the QR code to join a group.
The group invite link was first reported to be in testing back in June alongside the mentions feature.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp finally enabled the mentions feature on its Android as well as iPhone app. The mention feature worked same as it does on Facebook and Twitter. Users will use “@” sign in a group chat and the app will automatically suggest names of the group members. Notably, the feature is currently limited to group chats only.

WhatsApp Tipped to Include Passcode Protection Feature for Chats

WhatsApp Tipped to Include Passcode Protection Feature for Chats

  • WhatsApp may enable passcode protection for chats
  • The feature may be optional
  • The feature was spotted in translation requests sent by WhatsApp

WhatsApp implemented end-to-end encryption across all platforms earlier this year. If a new report is to be believed then the world’s most popular instant messaging app with over 1 billion users may add a passcode protection feature for chats soon.

Android Authority has been tipped about the purported six-digit passcode protection feature. The feature was spotted in WhatsApp translation requests, which are text strings sent by the company to volunteers to translate UI and other text, and if real, can indicate the company is working to add passcode protection.

Some of the phrases reported include “Enter the current six-digit passcode”, “Passcodes don’t match. Try again”, and “Enter a recovery email address”. The translated phrases indicate that users may get a recovery mail option in case they forget their six-digit passcode. The report further adds that the use of a recovery mail may be kept only as an option. This sounds slightly strange considering an email is required in case users lock their accounts. At this moment, it is not clear whether WhatsApp will keep the option to add six-digit passcode feature a compulsory or optional feature.

In the past, leaked translation requests have been a reliable indicator of upcoming features on WhatsApp. So far however, there has been no confirmation about the rollout of the passcode feature from WhatsApp. The move to add passcodes to protect chats seems the next step to enhance messaging experience on WhatsApp as it already support full encryption on all platforms.

Recently, WhatsApp finally enabled the mention feature on its Android as well as iPhone apps. The mention feature works same as it does on Facebook and Twitter. Users will have to use “@” sign in a group chat and the app will automatically suggest names of the group members. Notably, the feature is currently limited to group chats only.

Samsung Galaxy Note Series Use Banned on Flights

Samsung Galaxy Note Series Use Banned on Flights: DGCA

  • The incident happened in a Singapore-Chennai IndiGo flight
  • DGCA to summon officials and ban the use of Galaxy Note series on flights
  • Incident happened as Samsung is busy recalling its Galaxy Note 7 units

A high-end Samsung smartphone caught fire inside a Chennai-bound IndiGo aircraft on Friday, creating a scare among 175 passengers on-board but the plane made a safe landing.

The incident, concerning Samsung Galaxy Note 2 device, prompted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ask all airlines to ban the use of this series of smartphones inside planes, while the company officials have been summoned by the aviation regulator on Monday.

The fire was reported inside the IndiGo aircraft coming from Singapore at the Chennai airport.

Passengers travelling on 6E-054 flight from Singapore to Chennai noticed the smoke smell in the cabin this morning and immediately alerted the cabin crew on board, IndiGo said.

The crew found the smoke to be coming from the hat-rack of seat 23C after which the pilot alerted the ATC of the situation on board.

“Taking the precautionary measure, the cabin crew on priority relocated all passengers on other seats, and further observed smoke being emitted from a Samsung note 2 which was placed in the baggage (of a passenger) in the overhead bin.

“The crew discharged the fire extinguisher which is as per the Standard Operating Procedures prescribed by the aircraft manufacturer, and quickly transferred the Samsung note 2 into a container filled with water in lavatory,” it said.

The airline said the aircraft made a normal landing and all passengers were deplaned as per normal procedure.

“This equipment (Samsung mobile) will be further examined by the concerned departments. IndiGo has voluntarily informed the DGCA,” the carrier said, while adding that safety was of the utmost priority and at no time it can be compromised.

The watchdog had earlier banned the use of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 onboard an aircraft following a series of incidents of the smartphone’s battery exploding in various countries.

However, this is the first incident of the Samsung device catching fire onboard in India. No immediate comments was available from Samsung. The regulator would now issue a fresh advisory about these devices, while it has already asked airlines to advise passengers to switch off their Samsung Galaxy Note phones while on-board.

The Chinese consumer electronics giant will be launching the Lenovo Zuk Z2 – which was launched in China in May this year – as the Lenovo Z2 Plus in India.

Detailing the reasons behind the rebranding in the country, Anuj Sharma, Head of Product Marketing, Smartphones, Lenovo MBG India told Gadgets 360, “Once we are getting into a particular price band, we want to make sure consumers know the brand. We want to sell the phone. We are not bringing the device as token flagship as India is still a big market for us. However, Zuk branding will be there on the box, with the text ‘Powered by Zuk’ as a hat tip for the Zuk team.”

The Lenovo Z2 Plus will be launched in two variants in the country – 3GB of RAM with 32GB of inbuilt storage, and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of inbuilt storage. Both variants are dual-SIM, and will support 4G SIM cards in one slot, and 3G SIM cards in the other.

The Z2 Plus won’t run Cyanogen OS – like the Lenovo Zuk Z1 (Review) did – and will instead come with the Google Now Launcher pre-installed. The company says India-specific features will include gesture shortcuts via the fingerprint scanner. It will also bear a dedicated pedometer and come with the company’s new U-Health app.

The Zuk Z2 smartphone launched in China features a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with 2.5D curved high-fibre glass. It is powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC clocked up to 2.15GHz. The smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with EIS, an f/2.2 aperture, and PDAF. An 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture round off the optics on board the Zuk Z2. It packs a 3500mAh battery that supports fast charging – charging up to 80 percent in one hour. The Lenovo Zuk Z2’s connectivity options include offers 4G LTE (with support Indian LTE bands), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.1 BLE, and USB 2.0 Type-C port.

Two Arrested for Robbing 1,000 Units Worth Rs. 2.25 Crores in Delhi

iPhone Theft: Two Arrested for Robbing 1,000 Units Worth Rs. 2.25 Crores in Delhi

Two persons have been arrested from Mahipalpur area of south Delhi for allegedly robbing a truck carrying over 1,000 iPhone 5s mobile phones worth Rs. 2.25 crore, police said on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Mehtab Alam, 24, and Arman, 22, both residents of Mahipalpur. Mehtab Alam was arrested from Mahipalpur while Arman was arrested from Rangpuri area of south Delhi, the police said.

The police recovered over 900 iPhone mobile phones and the car used in the crime from them.

According to the police, the robbery took place on September 13, when the truck was carrying the mobile phones from Okhla area of south Delhi to Dwarka in south-west Delhi.

The two, along with their accomplices, held the truck driver captive before robbing the mobile phones near Rajokri flyover, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ishwar Singh told reporters.

The officer said the robbers then dumped the driver near Dwarka Link Road.

“During investigation it was found that two robbers – Bhola and Pradeep – were the former drivers of the truck, and had left their jobs two weeks ago,” the officer said.

“We also found that on the day of the incident both the drivers had followed the same route which was used by the truck carrying the mobile phones,” Singh said.

The accused have also confessed to having committed the crime along with their accomplices Bhola, Rahul and Jitender, the officer added.

The police was conducting raids to arrest the remaining gang members.

Reliance Jio Accuses Airtel, Vodafone, Idea of Baselessly Rejecting MNP Requests

Reliance Jio Accuses Airtel, Vodafone, Idea of Baselessly Rejecting MNP Requests

Reliance Jio has slammed incumbent operators Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone for allegedly refusing to help their mobile phone users port or switch to the new operator.

In a letter to Trai Chairman R S Sharma, Reliance Jio said Bharti Airtel Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd and Vodafone India Ltd are perpetrating “illegal and perverse actions” by refusing to enable the porting of mobile number connections.

“Considering that this is a clear and deliberate breach of the license conditions, Trai must direct incumbent dominant operators to comply with their license terms and obligations … failing which it should recommend cancellation of the respective licenses at the earliest,” Jio wrote. The three firms did not offer any immediate comment on the story.

“It is important to note that this is being done in blatant disregard to license terms and their obligations under the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009 and Trai directions,” Reliance Jio wrote on September 14.

Jio said it has been certified as Mobile Number Portability (MNP) compliant by the Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring Cells of all service area and in this month it wrote to incumbents about commencing services.

“Inspite of being under legal and contractual obligation to port the numbers after a valid request is made, the incumbent dominant operators have rejected all the requests made for porting between September 9 and September 12,” it said giving data of port requests rejected.

It said the rejections were in addition to “the rejection of MNP request of 4,919 corporate mobile numbers issued to employees and members of Reliance Industries Group by Bharti Airtel in August 2016. This was inspite of a confirmation from Bharti Airtel that there were no outstanding dues and that the MNP process could be completed.”

Reliance had last month asked all its employees to shun rival mobile phone operators and shift to Jio.

“Almost all of these rejections have been made on the baseless and unsubstantiated ground of ‘violation of contractual obligation’. The incumbent dominant operators have not even bothered to elaborate the contractual obligations that have been violated,” it said.

The “baseless and unsubstantiated” ground of violation of contractual obligation was being raised to unnecessarily harass customers and prevent them from availing the services of Jio, the company said.

Jio asked Trai to take serious cognizance of its complaint and intervene by taking strict action against the incumbent operators under the relevant provisions.

Tips to select the right builders in Delhi while buying property

Buying a home? Just as the location is important in buying the right property, choosing the right builder too is as crucial. Read this post to find out some tips to select the right builder before you zero in on your prospective buys.

Buying your ‘own’ home is every person’s dream. There is so much which goes into making your home whether it is financially or by any other means. Every day new builders are offering new and innovative residential schemes to lure maximum buyers into buying residential properties from them.  Hence, as prospective buyers you need to extra cautious before you sign the dotted line. This post helps in providing some useful tips which buyers in Delhi must keep in mind while buying their dream home.

  • Name and reputation of the builder

First and foremost, the name of the builder, his reputation, quality of construction, goodwill and reputation of his firm, etc., should figure at the top of the list of considerations which every buyer must bear in mind.  One helpful tip, in this case, is always to go for a trusted name instead of a first timer as then you are rest assured of the quality of his constructions and don’t have to worry about the builder duping you by any means.

  • Location of the property

Another crucial point of consideration is the location of the property. This is dependent on several factors like proximity to your workplace, in case if you have kids, then access to good quality schools and colleges, etc.  Keeping this in mind, these days’ builders in Delhi offer residential schemes in prime areas which have good access to all the major facilities like offices, schools, and colleges, etc. Hence, it is always a good idea to inspect the property few times before you zero in on the final one as that will help you to understand the value of the property in a much better way. Also, check for the details of the property on which the project is expected to come up. Check if the title to the property is clear. It is always good to check it yourself!

  • Approvals and licenses from the concerned authorities

Building any project whether residential or commercial involves a host of different licenses, approvals, permits and sanctions which the builder is supposed to take from the concerned authorities even before the project takes off. Hence, as a responsible buyer, it is your duty to check if all the plans are sanctioned and are in line with FSI which is approved by the authorities.

  • Facilities and amenities which they are ready to offer

Always be clear on what you want. Why settle for less when you can get everything?  Always check what all facilities and amenities the builders are ready to offer you. Keep in mind what your requirements are. For instance, facilities like gym, children’s play area, garden, etc. are some of the facilities which are offered by almost every builder. So be very clear about your specific needs and requirements are.

  • Opt for bank approved schemes

This is one of the standard practices which builders adopt these days. Once they fix on the area in which they plan to start their projects, they approach many banks to get approval on the projects in bulk. So when you approach any of their approved banks, banks are more than happy to sanction you a loan which they have already approved of. And since the banks have pre-approved the project, it gives you a sense of relief as far as the credibility of the project as well as of the builder is concerned.

Just keep these points in mind while purchasing your dream home and you will be able to enjoy your lifelong dream of having a house of your own without any troubles and worries!
